Ride History - Huntington Wagon Trail, Eastern Star Grange

Ride Classification Leader  GPS My Ride
B/22/Freq Toby Bayard  Link
Ride starts in Prineville at 1320 NE 3rd St. (Sons of Beer) and proceeds for 43.7 miles up into the Ochocos on N. McKay Creek Rd / NF-33 (2,147 ft) and then down (same elevation loss). If you want to hang w/ us for lunch and a beer, let Toby know and she will include you in the reservation.

This scenic, historic and relatively flat ride starts/ends at Big Sky Park, passes by the Eastern Star Grange (1912), the Bend Airport, and enters Boonesborough, a rural neighborhood in which four (still existing) hatchet-marked tree blazes once guided wagons along the Huntington Wagon Route. Built in the 1860s, the US Army built the HWR to haul supplies from the Dalles to Fort Klamath, a post used during wars with the Klamath and Modoc Nations. The ride also passes part of the Central Oregon Canal. Along the way, there are mountain views, old barns, a well-preserved Victorian home, etc. Please equip your bike with at least one flashing light front and rear.
