Sunriver-Bachelor-Benham Falls Gravel Mix

This is the D-pace version of the Sunday ride trifecta. Check the calendar for B- and C-paced rides starting and finishing from the same spot.

Meet at Sunriver Library, ready to ride at 9:00 AM.

This is mostly a road ride, but there are a couple of sections of gravel and packed dirt just to make things more interesting. You'll be fine on your road bike, so long as you have 28mm tires. The gravel sections are flat, so no big challenges -- except for the fact that the ground moves as you ride.

We'll start at the library and head out Century Drive along a familiar route towards Crane Prairie Reservoir. At about mile 9.75, familiar ends as we turn onto a 2-mile gravel section (the same one the Cascade Cycling Classic riders took) that hooks up with NF 40, the familiar road that heads back to Sunriver from Crane Prairie. But, just when you think you can smell the pizza, we'll take an abrupt left onto NF 45 and head back towards Mt. Bachelor. After the one big climb of the day, we turn onto Cascade Lakes Highway just past Kapka Butte Snow Park and make a screaming beeline towards Bend. But be sure to grab those brakes at the bottom of the big hill because it's still not quite time for lunch. We'll take a right onto NF 41 at the Visitor's Center, then find the end of the pavement and turn left onto a mile or so of gnarly gravel that takes us to Benham Falls. We keep going a little further on a smooth dirt section until we cross the Deschutes River to the Benham Falls East Trailhead parking lot. From there, it's a casual meander on one of Sunriver's trails through the woods and a few of Sunriver's quiet roads back to our starting point.

NOTE: There are a lot of other activities going on in Sunriver on Sunday, so we're gathering at the library instead of our usual spot at the Country Store. The plan is to finish the ride, then walk or ride over to the store area where a big outdoor festival (food, drinks, booths, etc.) should be set up. Bring walking shoes, street clothes (if you want), and a bike lock if you plan on riding over. However you do it, plan on joining others from all groups for a bite and beverage after the ride.
