Ride Leader Overview
Ride leaders are the heart and soul of the Club. Riding is what we do and rides are the most visible feature of our club. If you want to lead one of our rides or if you have an idea for a new ride or don't see your favorite ride listed, consider joining our ride leaders' team.
Becoming a ride leader is easy and rewarding. Ride Leaders are responsible for planning their ride, submitting their ride on the website, and managing their ride. There is no requirement for the number of rides you lead or the type of ride you lead. All the club asks is that you are a current club member, that your ride follows all club rules and policies regarding a ride, and that you ensure the ride follows all laws and is safe.
What Does A Ride Leader Do?
Everything you need to get started is on our Guidelines for Ride Leaders page. You'll be asked to submit a ride and will be given some good pointers preparing for your ride.
Ride Leader Certification
The Club is working towards the establishment of a Certified Ride Leader Program. The program will recognize those Ride Leaders who have dedicated their time providing high-quality rides during a calendar year. Each Ride Leader who is certified will be given a special Ride Leader Jersey that he or she can wear every time they lead a ride.
Ride leaders will receive a new Central Oregon Velo jersey after leading 5 COW rides! Until they are gone. Due to the generosity of Glen Bates, we have a about 30 new jerseys ranging in size from 2 through 8 (European sizing) for men and women. Color is blue and yellow, full zipper, highly breathable. They are not Central Oregon Wheeler jerseys, they don't exist yet, but hey they are nice.
