Bend Bella's women's bike club is kind enough to invite women AND men on this classic ride - the Aufderheide Scenic Byway. This is NOT a Central Oregon Wheelers ride.

Advanced ROAD Bike Ride: Aufderheide Scenic Byway – Fellas Invited!

Bellas, Fellas and friends of Bellas are invited to join Catherine and Rod as they ride the scenic Aufderheide Byway.

Aufderheide Drive was named after Robert Aufderheide, the Willamette National Forest Supervisor from 1954 until his death in 1959. Previously known as Forest Road 19 and sometimes called the “Box Canyon Road”, Aufderheide Byway is said to be one of Oregon’s most beautiful and lightly traveled roads. A smooth ribbon of pavement, a cathedral of trees above and the sound of a rushing river beside you… it doesn’t get much better than this road. You can ride the Aufderheide with equal pleasure from either direction; it’s a classic up-and-over, letting you work hard for the first half and enjoy the fruits of your labors for the rest.

When:  Wednesday, June 15

Where:  Meet at Takoda’s Restaurant, 91806 Mill Creek Rd, Blue River, OR (mapREADY TO ROLL at 9:00 am. There is parking, restrooms and a general store.

Ride Details:  You can see details of the ride here: www.ridewithgps.com/routes/9770778. This advanced road ride is an out and back 60 mile ride with about 4 thousand feet of climbing. We will be on Hwy 126 for less than 2 miles before turning left onto FS 19, a scenic road with very little traffic. Riders may turn around at any point along the way. Water is available at Frissell Crossing 22 miles into the ride. The ride climbs gradually before it makes a switchback and climbs steeply for two miles to the top of Box Canyon.

There are many wonderful camp sites along the McKenzie River, as well as rental cabins. Belknap Hot Springs offers scenic camping as well as lodge rooms and cabins.

*****If you plan to drive over the morning of the ride, the best route is Hwy 20 over Santiam Pass and then the Mckenzie Hwy 126. Allow 2 hours of driving time.

After the ride we will rehydrate at Takoda’s restaurant.
