Steve and Susan Klarquist

Six COWs – three couples – are planning to camp and ride some of central Oregon’s best gravel roads this summer, near Camp Sherman. We plan to camp for three nights at Candle Creek Campground, on the lower Metolius River. This campground is the furthest one downstream – below Lower Bridge – on the left (west) bank of the river. It is a more primitive campground than some of the others, with no potable water, but reportedly large, beautiful sites. It is right on the river though, at its confluence with Candle Creek. More importantly, there are several sites available. We each reserved our own campsite, from Sunday, July 10 to Wednesday, July 13. Three nights. If you wish to join us and camp, you will need to reserve your own site. As of this posting, there are four sites available. The recreation.gov website indicates that the access road might be rough, but a review from last summer suggests that the road is suitable for passenger cars. Additional sites may be available at other nearby campgrounds. Steve and Susan Klarquist will lead their favorite gravel ride on Monday, July 11, the original Sherman’s March loop created by Dirty Freehub.  A second ride, or a hike, on Tuesday, July 12, is yet to be determined. The idea now is to reserve sites and work out the details later as the date approaches.

This is a fully vaccinated event only.
